Superior biodiesel quality assurance requires the proper tools, hardware and procedures. Delta BioFuels has it all:
Tools
Delta BioFuels has a full-scale laboratory on-site with all of the instruments necessary to certify that our product meets the ASTM D6751 specifications deemed critical by the National Biodiesel Board's BQ-9000 standard. Our instruments are state-of-the-art, and our lab is supervised by Wanda Horne, who has over 15 years of experience in managing QA/QC processes. Further, Delta BioFuels uses reliable, certified laboratories to conduct certain tests less frequently needed. Delta BioFuels also uses NIR Spectroscopy for in-process testing at various points of our production. This in-process surrogate testing helps to assure that finished product shows up in the distribution tank on-spec, every time – before the certification tests are conducted.
Our lab equipment includes the following:
- Herzog HFP339 PM (Flash Point)
- IEC Centrifuges (Water & Sediment)
- Mettler DL 25 Automatic Titrimeter (Acid Number)
- CT-500 Cannon Automatic Viscometer (Viscosity)
- Mettler DL31 Karl Fischer Titrator (Water)
- Clarus 500 Perkin Elmer Gas Chromatograph (Free and Total Glycerin)
- Mettler DE40 Densitometer (Density & Specific Gravity)
- Herzog HCP852 (Cloud & Pour Point)
- Ransimat 743 (Oxidative Stability)
- Teledyne Profile Plus ICP (Phosphorus, Sodium, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium)
- Horiba SLFA-UV21A Ultra-Violet Fluorescence (Sulfur)
Hardware
Adequately sized finished product storage tanks, balanced with production capacity, is another critical element in managing product quality. Many plants simply do not have enough tanks to test product before it leaves the plant – the testing takes too much time. Delta BioFuels has an ideal set up for managing significant lots of certified fuel. With three 250,000 gallon finished product tanks and an additional 650,000 gallon finished product tank, we can identify and certify every drop we make, whether it is being shipped out in a tank truck, railcar or barge. The three main rundown tanks are always rotating through service – either being filled, certified, or having been certified, being shipped. With Delta BioFuels, when you receive a Certificate of Analysis, you will know that it is truly tied to the fuel we have delivered... period.
Procedures
Delta BioFuels is run by petroleum industry veterans who know that high quality results are only possible if good operating procedures are established, followed and improved upon. Delta BioFuels has adopted the BQ-9000 approach to developing all of our operating procedures such that quality is integral to every step of our business.
